In 1664, The Duke of York founded New Netherland, but later changed the name to New York. He founded New York to make money off of crops. New York was a royal colony and primarily based their economy off of wheat. Some famous people that were born there include, Dylan O'Brian, Jay-z, and the rap god Tupac Shakur. New York mainly attracted farmers.
